Does the Gigabyte GTX 750 GV-N750OC-2GI require the 6-pin power supply?

The card has a 6-pin power supply socket while other brands such as ASUS, MSI and EVGA do not have it in their GTX 750 cards. Will the card work if I do not plug it in? Is it meant to be used only if I want to OC?

If a GPU has any pin sockets, 6 or 8, they have to be plugged into your power supply to operate the card.
