So about several months ago I purchased my motherboard which was a Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P ATX AM3+/AM3 Motherboard.

The problem is, that I bought it second hand off a seller on a website called "Trade Me" which is a New Zealand website similar to ebay. Anyway in the box I recieved the motherbaord and documentation. But what I did not recieve is the I/O shield and I heard that there are cables that would usually come in a 1st hand box. So my question is "Is it possible to do my build without the I/O shield and cables that may have come with it. Will some of those cables be provided when I buy the case? (1st hand ofc).

Help is greatly appreciated, thanks a ton!

Solution
i/o shield is only meant to keep dust out from your case, as for the cables, those are sata cables that come with it and perhaps a crossfire bridge, those you will need to buy yourself if you don't already have thme

Solution
The I/O shield and 2 sata Cables come standard with every other motherboard along with an installation manual , warranty , guide and an installation disk.

You'll need an I/O shield to build however you can buy it off e-bay for cheap also you can buy two sata cables ( or more depending on how many harddrives you intend to use in your build ) .

Some cases will come with the standoffs for the motherboard so you needn't worry about those but I don't remember buying a case that had a spare I/O shield or sata cables .

no case has i/o shield, each motherboard has a different io shield, because the i/o s different, and as i said it's only function is keeping dust away, i haven't used one for the past 8 years or so, never had a need for one

I heard you don't nessecary need an I/O shield to carry on the build, so wouldn't it be alright without one? Because it is so difficult to purchase an I/O shield from where I live (New Zealand). Thanks for the response.

Thank you for the response. I think I am convinced that I don't really need one for it to work. Thanks for sharing your past experiences with I/O shields too, that was very helpful. Thanks.

The system will function without one but it will need to be dusted frequently.
