Motherboard drivers needed when video card installed?

Hiya all.

I'm using a Packard Bell MCP73PVT-PM motherboard, which has Nvidia Geforce 7100 (nForce 630i) graphics, with my R7 260X. Today, I found some old Nvidia drivers lurking around in "Uninstall Programs" and so unwittingly deleted them, thinking they were serving no purpose now I had the R7 260X with its AMD drivers. However, when I tried launching BF3, it told me something about D3D drivers and DX10.

I guess this is down to deleting the old Nvidia drivers (which must have been attached to the chipset) due to how it broke after I deleted them. None of my games start anymore, and Windows Aero has stopped working, I have the basic colour scheme again.

Can someone help me fix this? I'm running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Were you using Lucid Virtu MVP? Is your monitor plugged into the graphics card, or the motherboard? Make sure the answer to #1 is "No," and that you've plugged the monitor into the card. Remove all video drivers (Windows will use a generic one), reboot, then go to www.AMD.com to get the latest drivers for your card. Install those, and you should be good.

Okay, I might have made myself sound a little bit dumb.

I have no idea what that program is, so no.
I have two monitors plugged into the graphics card - a 1080p one through HDMI and a 1024p one through a DVI-I to VGA adapter.
I have got the latest AMD drivers installed.

I have downloaded the Geforce 7100 (nForce 630i) drivers but not installed them yet, thinking they might affect or conflict with my current drivers.

I think the message is pretty clear. You need to redownload DirectX and have it reinstall itself.
Secondly you DO NEED the NVIDIA drivers because the onboard is still active, unless you deactivate it, it uses the 'power' of those to render the 2D even with the AMD put in.
Third, your potentially right there COULD be a conflict between Nvidia and AMD, but there WASN'T till you messed with things. Simply use RESTORE POINT to go back to before you made your error and should resolve it.
Lastly, you could use SlimDriver to look up all the necessary and up to date drivers for yourself, to make sure everything is up to snuff.

Personally I would ditch it anyway as your running a Dual Core Processor with DDR2, real old legacy and pretty low tech to be gaming on. If cost is a issue a good medium would be to switch to PS4 to get the high end video your trying for, but on low cost

If I had the money, yes of course I would upgrade...unfortunately, I don't. I'll have to work with this rust bucket for a while.....also the Q8300 is a quad core, Q stands for Quad.

Can anyone else confirm that I won't mess up my PC by installing the Nvidia drivers I downloaded?

Okay forget the drivers I downloaded, I found a handy (hopefully not malware) driver detector called DevID Agent which has found my missing drivers and is now installing them..I'm missing a few other drivers as well.

Yeah, thanks but I've already downloaded those, not installed them yet just in case something goes wrong.

As with my luck as usual, my internet connection went down half way through downloading the drivers through DevID's Driver Utility, and it still hasn't come back on to finish the job. I've wiped everything that the program had done (including the half drivers it had downloaded) in order to stop any confusion and will hopefully restart it once the Internet comes back... I'm going to Turkey for a week tomorrow, so it might not be done for a while.

Won't they affect my video card drivers in any way? It seems kinda risky to install some weird chipset video drivers over the drivers I already have for my graphics card.

my link is from the motherboard chipset manufacturer not your videocard chipset manufacturer which is amd. I have an amd videocard on my intel chipset motherboard that has a realtek chipset netcard & realtek chipset soundcard & I do not have problems.
