seagate backup pluss ext hard disk not working

i accidentally droped my ext hard drive while coping files into it,now wen i reconnect it to the pc the led glows for a while and then goes off..any ideas how bad is the damage or can the data be recovered..what should i do now?

If you dropped it while it was actually writing files, the read/write heads probably made contact with the disk surface and your device is toast. In such circumstances without using a very expensive data recovery service you will not recover any data on your own.
