Hi,

I have just upgraded my PC to an i7-4790k using Gigabyte's Gaming 5 motherboard with a GTX 970 card. Very happy apart from one thing - the HDMI out from the 970 to my Sony AVAMP receiver is only 2 channel audio. Why is this?

In my old system using an i7-2600k and many different upgrades of GTX graphics cards, I have never had this issue and they have all instantly recognised the supported frequencies and codecs for my AV receiver. I have even tried turning the on-board graphics off and on from the BIOS.

I am utterly miffed about this and have spent all day updating the BIOS and drivers and trawling the internet for anyone with a similar issue, but nothing. I did have an issue just getting a signal to the AVR but that miraculously resolved itself.

Is there a chance that this is a faulty card or am I missing something obvious?

Thanks for your responses in advance!

It's either an OS, driver or card issue. You should be capable of 8 channel sound over hdmi. What is the card model. Did you do a clean install of the OS as part of the upgrade or are you running on the same installation that was in use prior to upgrading those parts?

Thanks for the reply.

It was a clean install of Windows 7 Professional, yes. Maybe I need to wait for all the updates to download before doing anything?

The latest driver and GeForce Experience for the card is definitely installed.

It is a Palit card. I'll get the exact model later.
