hey everyone,

I was looking around but I am not sure if I know what I am doing. I was looking around forums and I saw that apparently recent amd cpus have an innaccurate temp sensor. Is this the case with the 860k? O and which of the following is the cpu temp I should watch for overclocking?

my temps in the cpu 0 row at idle(average):
cpu 0 -10.8C
cpu 0 package - 59C

mobo row:
CPU- 22.6C

I had high temps with a waterblock a while ago. An air bubble in the thermal compound caused high temp readings. In my old apartment I would idle at 50+ because we lacked air conditioning.
Additionally, the capacitors and VRM's on some motherboards can prevent coolers from making full contact with the thermal junction on the chip. Try another program if you do not feel the results are accurate. As for your first question, the CPU-0: 59C is probably the temp which corresponds to your CPU.

CPU idle in BIOS is always lower than in Windows. In BIOS you are not running at full steam with an OS overhead.
Believe it or not Windows does generate heat!
Although from 40C to 60C is quite the jump. You can try CoreTemp, I have found it to be accurate.

I used amd's temp reader which is supposed to be accurate with athlons and it is at 63 C right now. I have a Fractal Design core 1000 usb 3.0 and I dont really have good cable management. Could that be a factor?

Airflow is important!
The ambient temperature of the room can affect readings. A comfortable room is a 21C baseline. 30C is a hot attic.
Have you recently applied thermal paste? Some types like Artic Silver need time to cure (about a week), otherwise temperatures exceeding 85C will cause the solution to partially crystallize reducing it's effectiveness by about 5-10C.

okay so this is what I will do:

First I will reinstall cpu cooler facing other direction and reapply thermal paste (arctic silver 5)
If that doesn't fix it, I will buy a case with better air flow perhaps r4 black pearl

any other suggestions
