Upgrading Ram from 8 GB to 12 GB 1600Mhz

So Im a heavy mutitasker and came into a little extra cash and was gonna get this: http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3-12800-Unbuffered-240-Pin-CT51264BA160B/dp/B006YG89Q6/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1428712930&sr=1-3&keywords=ddr3+1600

As it seems to be pretty cheap and is 1600 Mhz which matches my other 2 sticks.

My Question is, Would I loose 1600 Mhz memory speed/Dual Channel if I add 1 stick of 4 GB ?

Current have an AMD motherboard 990FX

You wont lose speed if you upgrade. Both sticks are 1600 MHz.

No you won't lose "speed" but i suggest adding 2 sticks because having 2 in dual channel and one in single channel could cause some issues for your build. At best you'll end up with it operating in mixed mode and your new stick will not give you the bandwidth you would expect. That said generally speaking i don't suggest mixing and matching ram sticks even if same speed unless they are same make and model. Ram is best paired with the exact same make and model or compatibility and speed issues can occur.

Yes, you would lose speed because you would no longer be utilizing dual channel. Get 2x2GB sticks if you just want to add another 4GB.

The big thing here is if the added DRAM will even play with the old, if it does or is made to, then you would effectively be running in AMDs version of Intel's Flex mode w/ 8GB in dual channel and 4 GB running in single channel - as said though, it all depends on if the sticks will all play nice which is a crapshoot
