I've outgrown my current alienware r4 and it's mini atx mobo So I'm moving onto the asus rampage IV black edition x79 board and a new case. I'm wanting to avoid losing my current SSD setup due to SQL server config and a few Corporate apps I have on the disk that take hours to configure.

I've read about sysprep but that doesnt seem to be an option for me. I've heard that theres minimal issues when migrating hdd to a board running the same chipset. Is this true? Any tips and tricks to ease my mind and possible save my ass on this?

Current setup
alienware r4 4930k alienware x79 mobo 32gb ram 500gb ssd 4tb hdd's gtx980

moving to
corsair 780T 4930k asus x79 rampage IV black 64gb ram RM1000 PSU dual 980's

Moving a drive with an existing OS is very much of a 'maybe'.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it does, but issues crop up later.
There is but one way to know if it works.

And then there is the licensing thing if it is an OEM install from Alienware.
