My computer has been giving me fits lately, but the issues are all over the place so it's been difficult to pin down an exact cause. Sometimes the computer just freezes, and I have to do a hard reset. Sometimes the computer just powers off and promptly reboots itself, as if the power went out in the house. Finally, the computer will just give the BSOD (picture attached), though it's rare.

I built the computer about a year ago, and I'm not to terribly knowledgeable on all the inner-workings, but the issues seem to have become a real problem after I upgraded my GPU to the 970 (previously using a 660ti), though as far as I can recall these have always been a problem. The powering-off makes me think there's a problem with the power supply, or at least it's usage (the 9590 is a power-hog, as I understand it). Meanwhile, the freezing seems like it a problem with my RAM, which is fairly old by this point, and the BSOD could be a number of things.

The attached picture shows the BSOD error I get, but from my research I could only get that it was some sort of nebulous "hardware error". I also tried to run prime95, and it immediately froze my computer after showing the second attached picture. (As a side note, when I first put the computer together a year ago, I ran Prime95 for about a half-hour with no error.) I'm also willing to provide some screens of my BIOS settings if needed.

Most, if not every instance of these issues arise while playing fairly demanding games, and I know i've experienced it while playing Deadrising 3, Red Orchestra 2, Wolfenstine TNO, and MGSV Ground Zeroes. Overclocking the CPU or GPU doesn't seem to make much of a difference, and they are currently at factory settings.

I'm currently finishing up a development-heavy semester, and I've already missed one milestone due to a BSOD wiping out my data, so any help I could get would be a godsend.

My computer specs are as follows:
MoBo: Sabertooth 990fx R2.0
CPU: AMD FX 9590 8-core 4.7Ghz
GPU: nVidia GTX 970 (Gigabyte G1 Gaming) 3.5 gb vram
Power Supply: Corsair 700 watts
8 gb DDR3 RAM
Corsair H100i liquid cooling
Running Windows 7

Sounds like you have a bad stick of RAM. If you have 2x4GB sticks, try booting with just one and testing in P95 again, if there are no errors then your issue is confirmed.

Sounds pretty clear cut as most of the testing with P95 points towards it being a bad RAM stick, so it is likely as clear cut as that.

I have 4x2gb ram sticks, and testing has yielded little. I tested the computer with configurations of three sticks at a time and still got errors. I'm still in the process of testing with just one RAM stick at a time, but I doubt Ill find much. The first stick gave the errors, and the second went straight to a BSOD. I'll check the third and fourth, but it looks like there are two possibilities:
1) All four RAM sticks have gone bad simultaneously over the course of the past year
2) The problem lies elsewhere.

I'd like to exhaust all options before I go buy a new set of RAM, so is there anything else this could possibly be?

EDIT:
I've finished testing the computer with all 4 sticks of ram individually, and they all gave an error in Prime95

update your BIOS or reset the BIOS to defaults and run memtest to confim the memory settings are ok.

the bugcheck shown in your photo is a watchdog timeout. these can be debugged if you provide a kernel memory dump (not a minidump) but if there is any chance of bogus memory timings in BIOS then windows files can get corrupted on updates and that just causes other bogus problems.

So, get the memtest86 test run to work, then check your windows install for corruption.
run cmd.exe as an admin, then
sfc.exe /scannow

you are running liquid cooling, check your temps. sometimes vapor bubbles form in the lines and the motor spins but the liquid does not move and the CPU overheats.

I believe my BIOS are up to date, but I'll try tweaking them in a moment.
As for the temperatures, Idling shortly after launch, AI Suite II records them as such: http://imgur.com/MzpjF9P
I understand those numbers are a little high, but the 9590 is something of a space heater, and I don't think we run into problems unless it gets to 70+ degrees.

I'll provide temps after playing a game shortly.
Thank you for the help so far.

EDIT:
After about ~20 min of playing Wolfenstine TNO, CPU Temp climbed up to 57 degrees. About 15-20 minutes later, it froze. I restarted the computer and got pictures of the BIOS screen as fast as I could. Temp seems to fall pretty rapidly, seen here: http://imgur.com/hSi6V3g,wy68wAz#0

I also got an image of the advanced BIOS screen in case anything there will help: http://imgur.com/hSi6V3g,wy68wAz#1

Shortly after I saw an option in the BIOS to do something along the line of "Load optimized defaults," and decided to try that, and see if it works. Ill let you know how it goes before I do memtest.
