So I recently built a new PC, and installed Linux Mint 17 on it. I have an older hard drive that I would like to put an OS on as a hard drive as a backup in case my main drive fails. The older drive is a 250GB WD Blue, and the manufacture date is apparently 2011. When I try to install Linux Mint (17), at some point in the installation I get an error saying that there was an error copying data from the CD to the HDD, and that it might be caused by a bad CD, bad CD drive or a bad HDD. I am not using a CD, I am using a USB drive. I have tried it with a CD and get the same error. I have burned multiple CDs and multiple USB drives, and have re-downloaded the OS just to make sure that was not the issue. It also does it with Ubuntu. I then tried two other old HDDs, and the same issue. I do not think that it is likely that all three hard drives are bad. So I am wondering if there is another component that could be an issue, like a bad stick of RAM, or if it is software related.
Hardware is:
Intel Core i5 4460
Asrock H97M anniversary edition, uATX
Saphire Radeon R7-260X
G.Skill Ripjaws X series 4GB
I also tried a different SATA cable, but that seemed to make no difference.
