EVGA GTX 960 SSC Fan - up and down and up and down and up and down and...

You get the point.

Only thing that fixes it is a system restart after gaming.

Very infrequently it will stop of its own accord after gaming, but usually it continues endlessly. I can hear the fans spinning up for 1 second then down for 5 to 10 seconds then back up again.

Otherwise the card is operating perfectly.

Is this normal activity for this card?

Thanks.

Thanks for the link, I will check that out.

Not sure its the issue though. The fans arent turning off... they are increasing RPM and decreasing repeatedly and cyclically. I can hear them now and no game is running, low load, just surfing.

Are your card drivers up to date? I use the precision utility but my 960 fans haven't acted the same as yours and run pretty quietly when they kick in.

The fan decreases in speed when the temp is going lower. For example, my GTX 980 Asus Stix keeps going from 79 degrees to 80. This is becuase my fan cools the GPU down when it hits 80 degrees. It then heats up again from 79 to 80 and then a cycle happens.

Drivers all and always up to date.

Definitely not going to run MSI afterburner, been "afterburned" by that software a few times.

Ill report back when I get X installed and running, though I'd rather not run it at all. Is it considered a necessary adjunct software for the EVGA cards to run at their best? I have no interest in OCing this card.

Thanks for all the great replies.

I got a piece of paper in my Evga GTX 960 box suggesting Precision X for controlling the fans if desired.
Hope that helps.
