Hey guy,

I was using Gigabyte 7870 OC on mobo Gigabyte X79-UP4 LGA2011 with i7-3820 and everything works fine.
Yesterday I sold my 7870 OC and got a new ASUS Strix GTX 970 and now it is not working well on my PC (installed the lastest Nvidia drivers):
My PSU is Antec Neo Eco 620C 80Plus Bronze 620W. I connected external PCIE power connector to graphcis card (8 pin).
1. It cannot identify my monitor (ASUS ML239) using HDMI and shows as generic non pnp monitor. Resolution is stuck at 1024 x 768. However if i connect my monitor to laptop it shows ASUS ML239 and displays 1920 x 1080 automatically. I tried another HDMI cable also doesnt work. it only displays 1920 x 1080 twice however revert back to 1024 x 768 again after reboot.
2. When it displays 1024 x 768 it's very smooth, get very high score when running graphcis card test. However when it displays 1080p i can see the graphcis is lagging. also it gets very very low score when running graphcis card test.
3. I notice it is always showing PCIE-2.0-x16 in GPU-Z. I upgraded BIOS and set PCIE config from AUTO to GEN3. However still showing 2.0 in GPU-Z. it display: "This Graphic cards reports it supports PCIE x16 v2.0"

Anyone can shed some light on how can I fix these issues? Thanks a lot in advance!!

I kind of fixed it myself...
In Nvidia control panel I created new customized resolution of 1080p and it works. Looks like the problem is Windows/Graphics card cannot get the information of monitor so it can only use 1024 * 768 as default.
I also found it works as pcie 2.0 because X79 platform has no PCIE 3.0 controller
