I bought and built my own PC today, however my monitor is only working with the on-board vga port on my mother board. Using the DVI-I to VGA adapter that came with my video card, my monitor goes to sleep. There is power going to my GPU, but I don't know how to tell if my GPU is installed correctly. Haven't tried the DP, DVI-D, or HDMI ports on the GPU, my monitor only takes VGA and DVI-D (I don't have a DVI-D cable)

System:
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
PROC: AMD FX6300
GPU: Sapphire Dual-X R9 270X overclock edition
Mother: Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3

Side-note: Blue-screen the first time installing GPU driver from CD-ROM, and HDMI audio driver failed to install.

Solution
Could simply be a dodgy VGA adapter so buy & try a DVI-D cable (ideally you should have tried that before posting to eliminate the VGA adapter as being a possible cause of the problem).

I assume you've connected the auxilliary PCIe power cable(s) to the card from the PSU?

I picked a solution because it wasn't actually the dvi port on the GPU; the instructions to set up the GPU were wrong. The instructions tell you to use only one 6-pin, but the GPU has 2 6-pin slots, apparently one for the actually GPU, and one for GPU fans and cooling. I guess that's what I get for reading the instructions :p
