RAM full on new PC

Hey guys,

I just finished building my new PC. Everything seems to be running great, except for downloading.
Whenever I start up uTorrent, after about 10 minutes, the memory usage skyrockets from 10-15% to 95%, and the SSHD I have the OS on freezes at 100%. The computer virtually becomes unusable, and I have to restart it. At the same time, the CPU basically cruises at about 1 - 2% capacity, while the secondary HDD (which is actually the destination of my downloads) rests at about 5 %. Looking in task manager unde performance and processes and in resource monitor, I can't find anything that would justify using up RAM like that - uTorrent takes up a mere 4 mb, and the rest of the running processes are way below that.

I run a i7 4790k along with 8 gb DDR3 1866 on a Gigabyte gaming 5 mobo. The SSHD is a 1 TB Seagate Desktop and the HDD is a 600-someting Gb WD Caviar. Everything is brand new except for the HDD (which I kept from my old PC for extra storage - I was planning on only using it for storing stuff and downloading to it).

Any idea what it might be?

PS: OS is Windows 8.1

The download job is already started in uTorrent (torrent is saved on the PC). All I do is start the PC, start the uTorrent client, the download job resumes... and 10 minutes in, everything goes south.
