I'm trying to decide whether to get an i7 4790k or i5 4690k for my PC. My GPU is a GTX 970 from MSI Gaming Series. I will upgrade to an newer GPU or an SLI configuration in the future. My purposes are mostly gaming and watching movies on a 4K monitor. I won't be overclocking the CPU right now but maybe after sometime...

Please help me because this is the only thing that makes me scared as there is not a lot of differences in the benchmarks and i want to be build a gaming PC as soon as possible... It would be great for the help :) ...

None of them is future proof honestly
You can argue how long they will be working fine or how long they will be giving you a great performance but future proof not really
If you want to future proof I wouldn't recommend a socket that will be replaced in a few months
But both of them will work great for a good 5 years most likely and the I7 is better for the future since optimization to use more core/threads is actually quite nice lately and DX12 will according to Microsoft will use all threads equally so the more the better at that part
But if you want to go with a little more future proof and not hard pressed to buy a pc right now I would tell you to wait for Skylake since at least you will be getting a new socket with support for...

i7 4790K Is futureproof guys Till 2017
Look:
Intel goes only from the second half of 2017 make chips that use smaller parts than the current generation.
This means you will have 2 years chips that are slightly faster till 2017 but i even think you can have the cpu after 2017
The skylake is gonna come and theyre for gaming maybe 1,2 Fps more after 2017 they are gonna make a new nanometer chip also, and that is where the big improvements should be but i still think you can go 2 years after 2017 so in total thats 5 years.

My spes is
CPU:Intel Core 2 Quad 9550 2.83GHZ
GPU: GTX 280 1Gb
Ram: 8 GB

Best computer setup in 2008!!! and still can run far cry 3 in ultra with around 30fps :p
and some games in medium- high, plays pretty smoothly
so i would say, 4790k along with top ten ranking gpu, can at least last you around 5 years
