Hi guys, i not yet decided about a possible system upgrade. I have 4670k + asus z97 m plus + 8gb ram + gtx 770, and now i have posibilities of cahnge it to an used i7 3820 + Intel BOXDX79TO LGA 2011 Motherboard (with my cpu and motherboard in part of payment).

I know that lga 1150 (z97) is newer and i can upgrade with intel 5th generation, but the 3820 has superior performance?. i can't upgrade the lga 2011 (with this board, but i can get a i7-3960X maximum) which has more future proof?

Escensially i use computer for work (web programming), university (MS office, more programming), and heavy gaming often.

I also consider to retain my 4670k and overclock it (i heard about 3820 may be partially overclocked, has low temps, but i need overclock RAM too with 3820?).

I need help, should i keep the 4670k or get the 3820?, or has no advantages to move from haswell to sandy bridge-e? which has better OC? with the upgrade money get an cpu coler and ssd in exchange of 3820 build?
Thanks.

I see no reason going backwards, and the 3820 produces ALOT more heat. For gaming the 4670k is better since there are very few games that utilizes HyperThreading, and the therefore gives the 4670k an advantage. You can overclock the 4670k if you want more performance with an Cooler Master 212 EVO, but I really wouldn't downgrade.

You seem to have missed the fact that you can't overclock the 3820. It's only K-series chips that are overclockable other than by BCLK, which yields little value by itself.

And why on earth would you buy a set of used chips?
