G.Skill Ripjaws X Series CAS 7 vs. CAS 9

I'm looking through RAM options for a gaming PC build and I saw these two cards from G.Skill
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series (Blue) which has a latency of 7
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series (Red) which has a latency of 9
It looks like they are the same price despite the Red having a much higher latency. The only other difference is that the Red version has a heat spreader. Does that really make enough of a difference to make up for that increase in latency? It seems like the blue version is a no-brainer.

The blue version would indeed be "faster", but only in rare real-world situations. Benchmarks would certainly look better. For gaming, even at best you may gain 1-2FPS in specific games(though realistically it's probably .5 FPS), but most likely you'd never notice the actual difference.

Put side by side, you see better performance at 1600/7, depending on your CPU though, they can be OCed to give even better performance increases, the 1600/7 sticks can generally be OCed to 2133 fairly easily, where the higher bandwidth can provide even more FPS, in gaming, that's more FPS and in other tasks, especially multi-tasking, things like VMs, video, imaging, CAD or anything data intensive or using large data sets, you see even greater gains
