Okay first of all here is my current PC Specs

GPU: Gigabyte R9 270x
CPU: AMD FX-6100
Mobo: Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3
RAM: 8GB

I want to upgrade my CPU, it just simply isn't enough for my gaming needs. So the 2 options I am looking at is the i5-4690k and the fx-8350. The 8350 is the considerable cheaper option as I would not need to upgrade my Mobo. However, if I did decide to choose the i5-4690k it would be more expensive but I would need to be upgrading my mobo in the future anyway so choosing that route might be better.

I want to future proof the CPU... Would choosing the i5-4690k and upgrading my motherboard be a better option than choosing the FX-8350 and having to upgrade that sooner than I would have to upgrade the i5-4690k?

Your motherboard will support any processor up to 125W TDP, which includes the 8350 and 8370. If you have the budget for a 4690K and Z97 motherboard then that's what I'd recommend, otherwise, an 8350 will do nicely.

The problem with AMD right now is that their new processor line will almost certainly use a different socket, so if you upgrade to the 8350, that's as far as you can go with your current motherboard. That said, the 8350 should still be good for a few more years.
