Can I use the same operating system in my current computer with my new one?

I'm building my first computer and an idea just struck me, why pay $90 for Windows 8.1 if I could use Windows 7 (Home Premium) if that's possible.

So is it?

I mean my current computer came with it already installed because I bought it through Best Buy, but what would happen if I didn't format my hard drive (I'm using the same hard drive from my current computer and installing it to my new computer)?

If I can, do you think it is worth it? I mean, people say Windows 8.1 sucks, but I did hear it is a little better for gaming and it boots up a lot faster. Or should I just wait till Windows 10 comes out?

Thanks!!!

Solution
1. 1 license, 1 PC.
2. The drive from your BestBuy PC will almost certainly not boot on your new hardware.
3. Even if it does, that BestBuy Windows 7 license is OEM, and as such is tied to that original motherboard.

Buy a new OS for your new PC.
