Xbox One Needs Same Ports Open on Two Static IPs

Hi!

I am hoping someone can help me with a networking issue in relation to my Xbox One.

I had to forward ports to get Open NAT with Technicolor TC8305C Modem/Router combo from Comcast.

Sometimes the console is connected via Wi-Fi and other times it is connected via Ethernet.

The Xbox One shows up twice in the router settings; separately as Wi-Fi and Ethernet.

I assigned Static IP's to both (10.0.0.5 Wi-Fi and 10.0.0.11 Ethernet).

I added all the ports for forwarding, but it asks for the IP. When I set the port forwarding for 10.0.0.5 and then tried to forward the same ports for 10.0.0.11, it said it already existed.

When I use the Wi-Fi (.5) it all shows Open NAT. However, when I use the Ethernet (.11) it is all Strict.

What can I do? Thanks in advance!

I can find out what the subnet mask is (not home now) if need be, but as for the IP, just one. Look forward to seeing where you go with this.

What you've said so far has already given me quite a bit to chew on.

Anyway to still do it with one Static IP? Or do I need to buy another?

you have a few options.

1) Let UPnP dynamically forward the ports to whichever XBOne requires it at the time, this is probably the simplest method. You should remove any static forwarding rules set up on the router and enable UPnP on both sides.

2) Buy another *internet* IP and have static forwarding to both wireless and wired connections, simple, but will cost you more.

3) manually re-forward the ports each time you move connection, this is the most labour intensive route to take, but will work, you'll just need to be ok with logging in and modifying the router config each time.

1) Won't work. That's where I started.

2) Seems like the solution if no one knows another way. And if possible, could someone explain why it is saying the forwarding rule already exists when they have two different IP's? Don't understand why 10.0.0.5:3075 and 10.0.0.11:3075 conflict...

3) What I'm trying to avoid LOL!

Thanks for the replies.

At first I thought you had 2 different xbox which makes your issue close to impossible. You would need 2 actual ip from the ISP which are not the same thing as what you are calling static ip. Still by using 2 different ip internally you are creating the same problem. You can not port forward the same outside port to 2 different ip inside even if it happens to be the same device.

What you need to accomplish is to get the xbox to use the same IP on the wireless and the ethernet. On a PC it is pretty simple you just go in and set them the same. Sometimes you have to manually disable one but many times it just work. I would try to put the same IP on both the wireless and the wired connection in the xbox.

If all else fails you manually set the ip when you change from wireless to wired. Hopefully you are not sitting around all day changing this so you should only need 1 ip forwarded in the router then.

I don't own a XB1, but on the 360 i seem to recall UPnP wouldn't enage unless you enabled DHCP, as in non static IP's. Give that a try.

2) no it won't work, the router has to route unsolicited packets from Internet to your LAN, an incoming UDP_3075 packet has to be routed one way or the other, they do not come with a tag saying "i'm for Wired Xbox" so the router has to make a decision based on it's configuration, and that maps 1:1 only, routers can not fan out unicast UDP.

If you bought two Internet IP's of course then this becomes possible.

3) is what UPnP will do for you if you run DHCP, (although i have no xboxes to test with) don't ask me why it doesn't work with static's on your LAN side :)

Why must you have it setup to use both the WiFi and the Ethernet? Just hook it to the Ethernet and port forward to that IP. You can't use both at the same time anyways unless Xbox supports teaming and/or load balancing; all of your traffic is going to go through one or the other. If it is simply that some times you want to use the wire and sometimes not then set both the Ethernet and the WiFi to the same IP and turn them on as needed.

Hey, I could have misunderstood you, but I wasn't saying the Static IP internal was the same as the external Static IPs provided by an ISP.

I completely know what you're saying and didn't think of it. Or at least I think so. you're saying to change it to manually set the IP, DNS and Gateway and wireless or LAN it will work? I'll try that.

It may just be a solution that works for me, as long as nothing else weird goes down. Thanks!
