Looking for advice.

Ive got a new PC with an Asus Z97-A motherboard and MSI GTX970 4G video card. I want to hook it straight up to my TV and don't have a monitor. The motherboard has DisplayPort, HDMI, VGA and DVI outputs whilst the GTX970 has DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPort. The TV is a Samsung and has HDMI and HDMI(DVI). The TV won't find a signal using an HDMI cable to the various HDMI ports. Suggestions?

Thanks

You should be using the Display outputs on the GPU as the motherboard ones get deactivated when a dedicated GPU is installed. Strange question but how long is the HDMI cable you are using? atm can't think of anything, I have a 980 and a samsung TV I'll give it a go when I get home in a couple hours :p

Okay thanks. Cable is 1.8m. I've tried from the GPU to TV but to no avail. Picked up a DVI cable to try instead.

Sorry about coming back to this late got cought up in some things. Just plugged the HDMI strait into the GPU and then into the TV in HDMI slot 1 (listed with the DVI) and it has worked perfectly, PC picks it up and starts displaying to it right away. You said you got another cable, give that one a go, the GPU may need an OS with Drivers installed to work correctly with HDMI assuming this was put together by you and still needs to have these things done. If it works with the DVI cable and still not with the HDMI the HDMI cable may be broken (check it with another HDMI appliance if you have one) or the HDMI port on the GPU may be broken, in which case you'll want to get it replaced with a new one. If it not working with either you'll have to try different parts until you work out which one is broken (could be GPU or could be motherboard) or if you bought this as a pre made you can make the people who sold it to you fix it :D

The reason I asked about cable length was because I thought you might be using the PC from a long way away from the TV, HDMI 10m+ loose signal strength. But at 1.8m that is a non issue.
