I am going to build a pc tomorrow with i5 4690k and hyper 212 evo. So what would be the safest and best way to apply thermal paste for beginners?

And what thermal paste should i use: the one that comes with hyper 212 evo or the "silver TIM Z3"

Hello... I always spread the paste flat, So try a "Thin Even Film", spread with your Finger... Air pockets/bubbles will cause problems.
Thermal paste is a " WET " medium to replace the AIR, where metal to metal contact is not possible... AND using too Much paste is not better here.
It can take time ( week ) for the Paste to spead out and allow metal to metal contact agian between the Cooler and CPU.

generally the key to any method is not NEVER rock the cpu cooler. once you do you just added air-bubbles to the mix, and you'll need to start over. That said the pea method does seem to work the best. trick is learning how much is enough. which might take a few attempts to get right.
