Hi Guys,

I am experiencing some weak WiFi signal on my desktop PC, which causes it to often cut out and become slow, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to improve it.
I have looked at many methods but these all revolve around changing the modem (location, type e.t.c.). Unfortunately, I cannot do this as, due to living in a university residence, I am not in control of the network.
I am currently using a $20 usb WiFi adapter but get the same problems when using my laptop and mobile devices as well. The signal strength increases dramatically and my problems disappear completely when I walk 5 or so metres down the hall to the modem.
Would using a large antenna and faster WiFi card (such as a PCIE card) improve this or are there any other methods I could use?
I was looking at upgrading to this hardware:

Thanks in advance,

The first thing I'd do is talk to the university's IT department, as the wireless access point may be faulty or offline. Failing that, a PCIe WiFi card with a good dbi rating (15 and above) will likely solve the problem.

Between the two you've picked, the TP-Link is definitely superior, assuming your current USB adapter supports detachable antennaes.
