Is it worth upgrading Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition to FX 8320e?

Hi.

I built a gaming PC about two years ago, it wasn't too expensive, basically I was wondering whether there is a significant difference between the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition and the AMD FX 8320e?

I'm looking into upgrading my CPU, I would have preferred the FX-8350 but it's not on my motherboard support list (basic AsRock board, 880GM LE-FX I believe) and will it make a noticeable difference in gaming etc? and will the 8320e run hotter or cooler than the Phenom? (using Zalman CNPS5X Cooler)

Thanks in advance,
Richard

Since you have a good cooler you wouldn't notice much of a heat difference.

You wouldn't notice much difference in games now but you will very soon start to need a newer cpu for games like dying light or GTA v, but since those games are very dependent on more than 4 cores you'll be fine for now.

As Crimson said above. Get a better GPU, 960 or 280s are in your price range that you would have spent on the CPU

Thanks for your answers, to be honest, upgrading both is a possibility, as there are some pretty decent deals on Amazon UK at the moment (FX 8320e for just over £100 and an R9 280 for £130, with these upgrades would it be recommended to upgrade the motherboard too? (and thanks Crimson I'll look into that)

Appreciate your help guys, I reckon it's about time for an 'overhaul' of some components in my PC, that MSI motherboard looks a good option, then I'd be able to go FX 8320 with a view to getting an R9 280 in the near future. Cheers.
