Hi!
To start, I would like to provide a few details about my network. I have a 103mbps download and about 5mbps upload connection at my home. The network consists of my cable company's modem, my router, 2 wired PCs, and about 6-12 wireless devices depending on what is turned on and how many guests are over.
So, for a few years I had a NETGEAR R6200 router (http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/R6200.aspx). I think it cost me about $120 when I first bought it. The signal covered about 90% of my house. I got about 3 bars of signal on my main computer. Websites loaded almost instantly, and loading multiple pages at once was not a problem (Not impressive, I know...but I mention it for a reason).
A few days ago it simply quite working. Luckily, a friend had a spare router which I was able to set up just a few hours after my original quit.
The new router was a NETGEAR R6300 (http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/R6300.aspx). A better model than my older R6200; my friend paid about $150 for it. Based on the fact that it was newer and more expensive, I believed the router would provide for a better experience than my old one.
That was not the case. While the signal was slightly stronger, the throughput definitely seemed slower. It felt as if there was something throttling my connections. Pages loaded much slower than normal, parts of pages were left unloaded, and I kept experiencing random disconnection issues. While the router was not very old, it was by no means new, so I assumed it just had its issues.
After just a few hours, I decided I would just go out and get a brand new router. It had been a few years since I purchased my original router, and my home network had grown a good bit over these few years. As a result I decided to put a little more money down ($200) and get what seemed to be a significant improvement over my R6200.
There it was, the NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk (http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/R6700.aspx). With a 1Ghz processor and MIMO capabilities, I was instantly in love with the futuristic looking device. After getting it home and setting everything up, I was more than excited to try it out. The range capabilities are fantastic; it covers every square inch of my home, and provides an extra bar of signal strength to my main PC (now 4 bars).
Unfortunately, I am already noticing little issues with it. Web pages still load slower than when I was using my old R6200. Certain pages refuse to load at all. And pieces of pages are sometimes still missing.
I don't really know what the problem it, but I assume it is something to do with my settings. Other than renaming the network and changing the password, I haven't messed with anything.
What do you think? Any Suggestions?
Thank you for your time and consideration!
