Stop GPU changing clock speeds

Hi,
I was messing around with my 780ti's clock speeds the other day and I have found out that neither msi afterburner, nor evga precision were able to permanently set my gpu's clock speed to any number. After I try to change the clock speed, my card jumps from idle speed (324 mhz) up to 915, for about a second and then up to 1024 for about 1 more second and then goes right back to 324. I have tried changing it to +1000 mhz, -500 and anything in between but the card still repeats the same sequence of boosting and throttling every single time and I cannot actually change the speed.
Is there a way to actually set a clock speed to my nvidia GTX 780Ti?

yeah, I understand this but this is an issue as the card slows down during games like battlefield (although i play on all ultra) and this causes the framerate to drop down from my capped 144 down to like 10, which usually gets me killed. That's why I want to do this.

Sounds like a thermal problem. Try ramping the fan up to full speed and see if it persists. (I know it is annoying, but just need to do it once to gather data)

You might be running too much core voltage under boost so lowering it could make a big difference as long as you maintain stability.

Thanks for the answer, but having tried that just now the fan speeds don't make a difference. I think that the voltage is not a problem, as I have not changed it and I think it is still regulated by the card itself.

Yes, but if it is going too high that could cause an automatic throttle.

Use MSI Afterburner to track the GPU core voltage while you game. Manually set it to that voltage and see what happens. If it has the same problem I would think that is it, then I would try a lower voltage.

Sometimes factory overclocks and stock settings will work for the life of the card, other times they don't as the thermal compound and/or heatsink dry out or get loose.

Had a card go weird on me once, ended up tightening the 4 screws nearest the GPU, and voila, fixed. Not saying that is the case this time, but until you start ruling things out you are just going to get frustrated.

Thank you for the reply, I will definitely try that out. Do you also know anything about the "getdeviceremoved" error? I have had a few Battlefield 3/4 crashes with that error coming up.

I run:
i5 4670
nvidia gtx 780ti ghz edition by gigabyte
z97 pro mobo
corsair rm1000
pioneer bdxl dvd/blueray drive
ocz vertex460 (bootup drive/ disk c)
3tb hdd (wd, i think)
corsair h75 for cpu cooling

Hmm, bit of an overkill power supply. Is it from a previous build? It doesn't have a great reputation in a price to quality ratio for a 1000W supply and some issues at temperature keeping ripple down.

If all the voltages look okay, it is probably not the problem.

A little research into the error points out two possibilities. Errors in the game engine making bad calls to Direct X 11 (re-install required), or switching to DX9. Or issues with card factory overclocks, it truly was cards not being able to handle 100% load at the factory settings, which might be more the issue you are having. Though most of those were AMD builds, so not really sure.
