ASrock X99 Professional - Cannot install Thunderbolt 2 AIC card

Has anyone been successful in getting the X99 Professional motherboard to recognize ASrock's Thunderbolt 2 AIC card? I've followed the instructions and tried PCIE slot #3 and even slot #4, but no-go. Bios was updated and configured as required. I'm out of options to try. Maybe a bad MB or AIC card? Any suggestions?

Solution
Hi,
I'm Davis from ASRock HQ TSD.

We tested ASRock Thunderbolt 2 AIC card on X99 Professional as below.
We installed the Thunderbolt card and connected to Seagate GoFlex® Desk Thunderbolt™ adapter.
And installed a disk(WD1001FALS) on the adapter, the system is able to detect the 1TB disk as normal.
(Please refer the snap shot from below link.)

However, we provide the steps for you, please do the steps for verify.
1.Please load BIOS default setting.
2.Please install the ASRock Thunderbolt 2 AIC card to PCIE3.
3.Please refer below link to download and install Thunderbolt(TM) Controller software. http://
4.Please enter BIOS and enable Intel Thunderbolt Technology in Chipset Configuration.
5.Please install the driver...

Thanks for the quick reply. I had success installing the card this time. I did try another thunderbolt to usb adapter after reading your post which seemed to do the trick. Now I can use my 27" iMac as an external monitor. Nice!

Davis, I'm running an Extreme4/3.1 mobo. The instructions that came with the AIC state that I should use PCIE2 on this mobo, which is what I have done. I've also enabled Thunderbolt in BIOS, and I chose the Legacy setting in the Thunderbolt security option.

I've installed the drivers. It doesn't work. Could it be because I'm running a Windows 10 preview?

I just want to bring this up again.....

I recently had an asrock x99 extreme 4 setup built, but the asrock AIC is not to be found in Denmark for some reason.

So I took the chance and bought the Asus Thunderbolt EX II expansion card. Took some fiddling around with drivers, and for some reason I have to plug in the GoFlex adapter with drive attached before I turn on the computer.

I installed both the Asus drivers and the asrock drivers and it finally worked! Am at the moment copying data from my external spindle drive to my internal storage. Alas, with reduced speed :)

But the important thing is that it works, and across brands as well!!

Hi legreve,

And thank you for your update. Can you please confirm what slot you have used for this adapter? I have tried everything I can in PCIE3 but cannot get this to work. :(

Thanks,
Adri

Hey all,

I'm having a similar issue. After trying all the above mentioned solutions, I cannot get the card to show up as connected, much less do anything with it. I'm using the ASRock Z170 Fatal1ty Gaming K6 System Board and running Windows 10. Any ideas what could be wrong? I believe the card shows up in the BIOS.

In mine it only works in one slot, the one immediately to the right of the slots for graphic card(s). (As viewed from the rear of the machine.) Sorry I don't have a diagram handy to give you the proper number of the slot.

In addition to that, you have to have the Win10 Intel driver. They don't make it easy to find, and the version number of the one that works may NOT be the latest version. When I finally found it, there were newer drivers for other versions of Windows but the card wouldn't work with those, only the Win10 version.

Thanks for the response Jerry. Yeah I wasn't able to find any data on which slot works with my motherboard but I believe I have it installed in the one you are describing.

I'm having trouble finding this Win10 Intel Driver. Which driver are you referring to? I have the latest intel driver from the ASrock page installed? Thanks again for lending your experience!
