I am thinking of assembling a custom Rig and have shortlisted the components which I feel will suffice for a decent gaming Rig.I would be highly obliged if the experts can be help me in confirming whether the components are compatible and offer their views.Might be going for an SLI config in the future.
Budget: 1300 - 1450 $

Processor: Devils Canyon 4790K

Motherboard: Asus Maximus Hero Vii z97

Graphics Card: Gigabyte G1 Gaming 970 gtx

Computer Case: Rosewill Gaming Atx Full Tower

Memory : G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000)

Power Supply Unit: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX

Inputs are much appreciated as I am a novice in this field and I also want to ensure that the Rig will support games which are gonna come in the next few years.
Thanks.

you dont need the 4790k at all if youre gaming, youll only see an advantage if youre doing a lot of video rendering.
the 970 can kick ass at almost every game maxed out (games like metro you will have to turn things down), I would recommend using the money saved from the 4790k and either start saving for a second 970 (which I would not recommend because youre gaming at 1080p), buy a single 980 for future 980 sli (again totally not recommended because again youre gaming at 1080p), or buy a 1400p or 4k monitor (RECOMMENDED, the graphics cards these days are pushing 1080p no problem, stepping up the resolution is just so worth it.

In short scrap the 4790k and go for the 4690k then use the money saved to buy a nicer monitor.

I prefer a gtx 970 sli over gtx 980( 980 is too over priced), I read reviews where gtx 970 sli catches upto gtx 980....but will I need another 970 to run upcoming games? Also i dont want to overspend my budget..

at 1080p and dx 12 coming in youre fine. But the gtx 970 just has so much potential than 1080p gaming can use.

good point bryan...high end i7's are reserved for production and not really gaming....lately producers are pushing toward more vram and cpu speeds are inconsequntial (?) a fast core i5 and 4gb of vram is great

So if I were to go in for a 1440p or 4k gaming can a Gtx 970 SLI handle it?I heard AMD cards are better for 4k gaming. Also is it worth it to stay with z97 or should I lean towards the X99 motherboard?Personally I find x99 super expensive.

B.T.W: thak you for the fast responses

a single gtx 970 can handle 2560 gaming with some games needing AA turned off. But when it comes to 2560 gaming you really dont need aa because the ppi is so large that there are no jagged lines. If youre talking about sli 970 then go to 4k. Dont get the x99, there isnt really a performance gain and you have to get ddr4 memory which would pull you way over your budget.

No problem for that, Im a bit bored today
