Building own PC, making cuts

Hello,

Around a year ago, I built a pc for the very first time. This one was for my girlfriend. Now a year later, my laptop has been having quite a bit of issues and I'm getting more and more jealous of her gaming rig. Truth is though, hers is just a bit too expensive and I've been trying to make some budget cuts: save money without losing too much performance if you catch my drift.
Her PC consists of the following:
Processor: i5 4690k
GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 770
Motherboard: Asus Z97-a
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 (If I remember correctly)
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
SSD: Some SSD of 120GB of ~60 euro
Power: EVGA Supernova 750W G2

I was also astonished by the fact that most parts are actually more expensive than a year ago (accumulating to around 200 euros extra).
I just want to have around the same gaming experience, but stay around the 1000 euro mark, including the case, etc (hers was around 1200).
For instance, the i5 4690 is slightly cheaper and I'm not planning on overclocking anyways. Do I really need a 750W power supply? I've read that the Z97 is just really good so I'll probably keep that, but what other minor changes could I make?

Solution
1. If you will use a 4690, then any lga1150 motherboard will do the job at half the price.
Nothing wrong with Z97, but with lesser chips, you give up overclocking and dual graphics card capabilities. Not that important for you. Look for M-ATX size which is often cheaper.
2. Games will use only 2-3gb by themselves so a 8gb kit of 2 x 4gb is plenty.
Buy any speed at all, Intel chips are not sensitive to ram speed. Avoid fancy heat spreaders(vengeance is just a marketing brand)
3. The supplied intel cooler will do the job. It might get noisy under load though.
4. Use a Maxwell GTX960 or GTX970 graphics card.
The low power required will run on 500w.
5. Pick only a quality psu. Look for Seasonic, xfx, antec for example. Do not...
Whats your budget?

6. 120gb will hold the os and a couple of games. With lower prices, look for 240gb.
Samsung 850 evo is good.
7. You can buy a cheap case, but I suggest spending a bit more for a case you really like.
I might suggest a Silverstone PS-07 which is a M-ATX size and a M-ATX motherboard.

It's late and I will give a more thorough answer tomorrow. Thanks for the quick responses! For now I would like to note that my budget is not a strict cap, but should be around/close to 1000 euros, including case. Also, I'm not actually British and the last time I had the problem that many parts weren't available in my country (Netherlands). I expect I'll have the same issue this time.
I will look into your suggestions tommorow
