Hi, I currently have:
Zalman 500W
Mesh Gaming case

I'm wondering if these will be sufficient for the upgrade I have in mind, currently I have a none over clocked i5-3570k and a radeon HD 5770 with 8GB of ram a SSD and HDD on a Giggabyte Z77-D3H. Would I be able to upgrade to a GTX 970 or do I need a new PSU and/or case?

Thanks for your time.

GTX 970 - needs 28 amps on the 12v + rail and a 500 watt PSU with 1x 6 pin and 1x 8 pin PCIE power connection.

So your PSU should be enough but i never heard someone say that Zalman makes good PSU so i wouldnt use it i would buy a new better one (maybe i am wrong maybe they do make greats PSU)

Your case is fine

I'm not sure where turbopiki found the 28A requirement. The stock GTX 970 is a 145W card. At +12V that would result in ~12A current draw. Perhaps he was referring to the total system amperage for the +12V rail. But you are good for a single GTX 970 with that 500W PSU. It has a +12V rail rated at over 400W. However, I can't vouch for the quality of the unit.
