I am installing workstations for a business. These machines are brand new. I connect a cable to the machine and it says that the cable is unplugged. I connect the same cable to my laptop and it allows me to access the web. The problem is definitely a software issue on the machine itself. I always uninstalled the network card drivers and reinstalled but no avail.

Can a firewall somehow block the connection?

Firewall can block it, you might not have installed all the motherboard drivers, you might have installed the motherboard manufacturer software, ( I suggest going onto the intel or AMD site and downloading drivers for everything, sound, network, CPU, motherboard ect.)

That should fix it.
