Hi all.

I came home to what I think, is many people's worst nightmare: my 3 kids bouncing around my office with my two year old happily :bounce: pressing buttons on my keyboard with the computer in hung restart mode with something like:

"Hit F1 to go into BIOS, HIT F2 to restart normally."

After putting my kid on the floor, I hit f2 to restart normally and am wondering if I should have done that, because now my CPU fan is SUPER DUPER loud. It just won't slow down. The CPU fan is somewhat new, installed two weeks ago by my trusty local computer shop.

I went into my BIOS and tried to find some kind of fan control and could not. I previously had no fan control software installed on Windows 7.

I tried installing speedfan and after watching a couple youtube vids and playing with settings... Doesn't seem to change anything.

Any help would be great, I really just have no idea what my child did or if it is something else altogether.

Relevant Specs:
Windows 7
ASUS P5Q Deluxe Mobo
3 ghz Dual Core
XIGMATEK HDT-S963 CPU fan - no native fan control software - PWM - installed two weeks ago.
Idle run temp: 35C - internet mild use temps - 40C (with the fan at 2800 rpm instead say, 1200rpm)

Solution
There will be a cpu fan control in BIOS . The manual for the board might tell you where . If you dont have a copy there will be one online .

Its also possible the fans can be controlled by software from the mb maker . Check what is installed

If the bios doesn't work, then you should get a physical manual fan control panel and hook it up to the computer, you can control your computer fans by using the nobs on the controller.

Got it fixed a while ago through the BIOS, even though it didn't first look like the BIOS would solve the problem. I went on youtube and found an old video giving a walkthrough of the P5Q bios and it was very helpful.
