Hello guys, im looking to upgrade my graphics card (ASUS HD6670). My motherboard is a GA-H61M-DS2 and a power suply of 550W Max power.

I was thinking on getting a MSI R9 290 Gaming 4GB DDR5, but for that i would need to upgrade my psu, or a MSI GTX 970 4GD5. This last one has a PCI Express x16 3.0 interface and i dont know if its compatible with my motherboard.

At last, if you think that it's not worth on buying any of those GPU, im thinking on expending 300/400 euros max.

Thank you and sorry for my bad english.

Your PSU seems to be okay, but I wouldn't put an R9 290 on it, it's a very power hungry card and your PSU can only deliver about 420 Watts maximum on the +12V rails, where your really power hungry components like your CPU and GPU get their power. The GTX 970 is much more power efficient and you probably can run it safely with your power supply.
Which CPU do you have? If you have a Pentium or i3 it's probably not going to be worthwhile to look at a high end GPU like the GTX 970 as you're going to hit a CPU bottleneck. A make and model of your power supply would also help, not all power supplies are created equal and there are a lot of them out there that say they can deliver a certain wattage when they actually can't.

Is the GTX970 compatible with my motherboard? (i dont know the diference between PCI Express x16 3.0 and PCI Express 3). Would you recomend some other GPU instead of the GTX970?

Thank you for the info. So if I want the 290 I need to get a better GPU right? Since the price of the 290 is 308,90 €
and the price of the 970 is 383,90 €, would you recomend on getting a new GPU and the 290 or should I just get the 970?

You'll probably spend less money on the 970 because of the required Power Supply Unit (PSU) upgrade associated with the 290. Given your limitations, I'd say to go with the 970, which is a slightly better card anyway.
