New WD 2TB drive, on Windows 7. The Device Manager sees the HDD, but it does not appear in "My Computer" and is not available.

The drive is visible in the Disk Manager, but I cannot assign it a letter or do anything to it.

Help! So far it's a brand new $100 brick.

Solution
Problem solved.

I dowloaded the WD "Smartware" package and it included a drive reformatter. It was able to see the drive (even though Windows didn't), and reformatted the drive. Now it works just fine.

I suspect the Tablo messed it up, and it wasn't anything WD did.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help. No, the drive does not appear in list volume.
In the Windows GUI, it does appear in the disk management system, but I can't do anything to it (all commands are greyed out)

I did not get any WD installation screens when I plugged this in. It's brand new.

I suspect the problem is that it was originally attached to a Tablo -- and I think the Tablo reformatted it. But, I don't see how to format the WD for NTFS and I'm leary of reformatting a drive, when I can't see it (don't want to mistakenly reformat c:)

You won't get any WD installation screens as far as I know.

Download this utility and do a full scan (not quick) to see if the drive has errors.

BTW, I had to RMA a brand new WD Scorpio black last week.
