Is a gigabit router's WAN port also gigabit rated? (probably)

I have a LinkSys 10/100 router in service as an "inside" router. It is connected to another 10/100/1000 router that sits on the DSL line. This gives me a DMZ where I have a web server and some other stuff. All my protected stuff is behind this inside router.

I **assume** that, if I replace the old LinkSys with a GB-rate router, I will have GB throughput. That would mean the new router's WAN port is GB rated. The obvious answer is yes but vendor specs say the switch ports are gigabit but don't specify the wan port as such.

Are my assumptions correct?

In my experience, gigabit LAN doesn't necessarily mean gigabit WAN. Obviously, to utilise gigabit, every device in the network path must be gigabit-compatible; from the NIC right through to the WAN router. Whilst this will give you a gigabit LAN, your WAN speed is still determined by your ISP.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Yes, I am aware that all must be gigabit on every device - that is why I am trying to get confirmation on the inside router's WAN port. Yes, I am aware that throughput to the outside is limited by the ISP.

So, the question should be, is anyone aware of a gigabit router whose WAN port is, indeed, gigabit?

Both of these suggestions appear to fit my requirements. Thank you very much.

Any other suggestions by folks out there?
