System specs: 3570K to 3770K all stock. Z77Z-UD4H, 16GBs DDR3-1600, Capstone 450W, 7950 boost, two SSDs and two 4TB drives.

Just got the 3770k. Bought it used off a forum. Looks good overall, saw 8 cores in the performance monitor. The problem I have is it gives random "pauses". Music will garble. Keypresses won't be seen. Action in games will pause. (Then continue like nothing happened.) Doesn't seem to be a heat issue. Easytune 6 says I'm at 37C as I type this. (Its under a Hyper 212+.) I've tried turning off HT and I'm currently not using Speedstep which seems to have helped a little but not much. That or I'm getting more used to it. I suspect it's a windows issue as I popped a different drive into my system that had a different copy of windows 7 on it and I didn't have any issues. Was from an old laptop that I hadn't formatted yet and after it loaded drivers for most things I was able to browse around windows without my mouse getting hung on anything. I'm going to try reinstalling windows on my computer tomorrow but thought I'd ask here first if anyone had any thoughts.

Yes, should have mentioned. Eventviewer is clean, and no ! in the device manager. The 3570 and 3770 should use the same CPU driver as they are both multicore chips. To my knowledge the pins should be good. I'll know when I put my 3570 back in and it works.

I'm not sure about running a computer repair with F8. I haven't done that since XP and I know it's different with OS above that. Any links on what to do/look for?

I had some issues with Z77 and an i7 3770k. Though it was limited to audio stuttering , i did contact Intel and they tried to help with a CPU Latency tool of some kind. The might have sent a link, or dropbox maybe. Using the same CPU with a different MB seems to have solved that so perhaps it is your Motherboard. Maybe the chipset or BIOS chip. Hard to say. If all else fails try updating the bios.

Same here. Only one bios, F1. There are two beta bios, one that adds secure boot, and other for better/newer memory. I think I'm already running one of the F2 (beta) bios, but I'm not sure. I'll check tomorrow when I reboot it. I've never pushed a CPU so my worry is that it's been over volted to much and it's on it way out.

I can't try it in another PC. I haven't asked about returning though that's a strong possibility. Someone at work suggest I try deleting the CPU driver in the control panel and reinstall it. I'll also try reinstalling windows. (I want to move windows from my Samsung 470 to my Samsung 840Pro drives anyways, but I was waiting for Windows 10 to come out first.) Oddly enough tonight was windows update night, and I've only had one glitch so far. If it stays good like it's been that I'll consider this solved. I don't know what update could have fixed this, but as long as it's better I really don't care.

Edit: I've never seen a dead/dying CPU either which is why I opened this thread. I've had some great OCing series CPUs in my day including the E6600 and i5 750. Never OC'd any of them. Just had a second and now third glitch/timeout. So guessing it's not better. Boo.

Hmm the 450W PSU seems quite suspect for me.

Those components in total require 400W, and it only takes a small issue for your PSU to output less than the stated amount.

If possible, try another - perhaps higher rated PSU. This may be your issue, it does sound similar to some power issues I have witnessed previously.

If you look at the load draws for the 7950, you should see 325W. I have a few extra drives so I might push 350, but probably not as they don't spin very much. The Capstone 450W is a beast of a PSU, it shouldn't be the problem. I've been running for over an hour now with not a single hickup. I'm pretty sure bad CPU driver was the issue. I'll close this, but no best answer as no one came up with that. But I'll have to remember this for next time.
