I am building a custom pc. I need to run a graphic-heavy simulator, so I need 24 gigabytes of ram (Yes, I'm serious). Which ram should i buy? Cheaper the better, but I'm worried that cheap ones won't last very long.

And should i get 3 packets of 8gbs ram or 6 packets or 4 gbs ram or 16gbs ram or what? Does it really matter? Help me!!!

24 is a weird number. If you run dual channel architecture you want to run steps of 4gb in pairs if possible, ALWAYS.

8gb: 2x4gb
16gb: 2x8gb or 4x4gb
32gb: 4x8gb
64gb: 8x8gb

G.Skill, Corsair and Kingston make excellent RAM that won't "break" easily, if installed with care.

This changes depending on your system but DasHotShot is right. The brands he mentioned all seem to be pretty good and sell decently priced kits. The question is what does your motherboard support? How many slots do you have and what type of RAM does it support?

The issue is if you use on odd configuration your motherboard doesn't really support it may drop to single channel and decrease your performance. Also if you use miss-matched sets you may run into compatibility issues. Most likely your motherboard uses dual channel DDR3 and you will want matched pairs and will probably want to consider increasing up to 32GB. THere are some descent kits from these brands for about $250 or so. In the unlikely event of you having a motherboard that supports triple channel DDR3 then 24GB is a descent choice and there are still kits available for around $200 or so. This is fairly rare and if you are building a new system you probably aren't dealing with a triple channel RAM system.

If your motherboard uses quad channel DDR4 you aren't going to find cheap RAM as it is relatively new.
