Will these RAM's be compatible?

Solution
Well, first of all, 8GB would be enough for most applications these days, so you may be safe with just using the single stick- what's your motherboard model?

But to answer your question, if you buy the exact same model, your chances of them working well together are pretty high...but not 100%. If you absolutely want to have 16GB without a chance of problems, resell the stick you just bought and buy a 2x8GB memory bundle. I know that's not the easy path, but it's the only guarantee of success.

I have a MSI Gaming 5 Mobo, that works in dual-channel I really want the boost I will receive with dual-channel. So are you sure If I buy another stick of ram, same model and everything there could be a chance it won't be compatible?

So should I get rid of the stick I currently have and buy one that includes 2? I have a feeling it maybe able to work in dual-channel if I buy the same exact model again.

It's a crapshoot, they might play, they might not. If they don't, then you may face return postage, restocking feew (if they give refunds), etc as well as time without the additional DRAM.. The forums are full of threads of folks mixing DRAM (often same exact model), I'm working on an article right now about 'upgrading' DRAM and mixing sticks is not high on the list.

So what do you recommend I do in this situation? Should I just keep my 8gb stick or sell it so I will be able to get the dual-channel boost? My PSU is coming on Friday so that is when I am going to start my build.

But if I were to keep the memory I have now and order the same model again and dual-channel is not compatible with the two sticks will it be that big of a deal? How much performance will I be losing?
