Recently I purchased an AMD fx 8350 to replace my 4350, mainly to play games at a higher quality. Yet the day after I put it in I received a Bsod error while running prime 95, and then again while playing GTA V. I thought it could be related to heat so I purchased 4 Af120 fans which are now in my system. My idles are around 30-35c and Max out at 50 while doing prime or intensive games. However I got another bsod today while playing GTA saying it was realted to the hal.DLL driver. I'm unsure what do. Is my proceesor faulty? I ran a memory test from the recovery options and no errors appearer. This didn't happen before I got my new CPU. Sorry for the long post but what do you guys recommend?

Solution
Motherboard BIOS up to date? HAL.DLL is the DLL that handles a lot of the hardware abstraction, so it does seem to point to something having to do with the CPU swap.

I have a M5A97 evo r.2.0 and I just updated my BIOS to the latest version. But I don't think that will fix it.

My Specs:
Gtx 670
And fx 8350
H60 corsair cooler
Ocz 750w
M5a97 evo r2.0
8 GB corsair ram

Dumb question, was the original computer a Dell, Gateway, Acer, etc?
If so then you were using the Windows that came with it right?
That would be OEM Windows, which ONLY works with the system AS SOLD, not changed out, so the HAL is corrupting error and you will need to BUY a NEW copy of Windows and install CLEAN all overgain.

If that is a prebuilt then your using a System Builder's edition of Windows which is safe for anything, but it seems the HAL table got messed up which normally I would have suggested (and others probably) be best with such a major change to just reinstall windows clean at this point to ensure it drafts the right HAL table for the new hardware. The problem can continue even if you resolved it now, where it will cause instability in Windows until you wipe and reinstall clean.

Are you sure this is what I need to do. I suspected it was the processor as when I ran Prime 95 some of the cores failed within the first 10 minutes. It only happens when I'm doing CPU intensive things as well such as Prime 95 and high end games.

Okay I've ran prime 95 for a while now. Amd overdrive says its running at 32.6-ish however I didn't think was right so I booted up core temp and it sits around the 37c mark. I use ai suite ii to control fan speeds and it says my CPU temp ( the ambient air one) is at 60c. I will say before I updated my BIOS some cores failed on prime within the first 5 minutes, now they all seem to pass the test!
