Hi, I recently bought an amd fx 8320 to replace the cpu (amd fx 4300) in my prebuild computer.
I took off the Heatsink fan and the old cpu and then put my new one in and the new heatsink fan and tried turning on my computer. The fans started up, but the computer would not boot and my monitor would just go to sleep. The leds on my mouse or keyboard didn't turn in either. Then I turned it off and unplugged everthing and switched back to my old cpu and the computer booted back up normally. Can someone explain to me what the problem might be?

Solution
The 8320 is a 125 watt TDP cpu, and your motherboard only supports up to 95 watt TDP cpu's. Here is a link to supported cpu's -http://www.msi.com/support/mb/760GM-P23-FX.html#support-cpu

You can go to your PC manufacturers website and download the latest BIOS from the software and drivers section. I would just go ahead and download and run the latest one.

If you tell me your model number, I can get you a link to the spot you need to go.

You can also find out what motherboard you have by going to Crucial.com and running their scanner. Go to the website and right in the middle you check that you agree to the terms and conditions and then click on download the scanner. Run that and within a couple minutes you will have a report showing your motherboard model number. You can post that here when you have it.
