hey all,

so i've currently got an R9-290 in an older rig and am upgrading to the 4790k on a maximus vii hero board. heard/read that some memory isn't very compatible with this board/cpu combo so want to make sure it works before buying. I want to get 16gb for now in 2x8 config so i can add more later

will this ram work or do i need to do special bios setup to use?
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM

or should i look at another set?

Just a little concerned with the voltage being so close to the 1.65V "limit". I was def looking at doing the 1866, may have to look at them again. BTW this will mostly be a gaming rig. Also, just curious if the CL8 will be a benefit to gaming at all.
Which of these would be better for that hero board?

Some games utilize DRAM better (and more than others), also faster DRAM can be of more benefit when doing other than gaming, especially multi-tasking, video, imaging, CAD, VMs *(anything with large data sets. Additionally with the price of DRAM today, it only makes sense to get faster if it fits the budget, 1600-2133 is often found at the same price point

Thanks Tradesman and Easylover for all the help. Since budget isn't much of an issue for me, I'm gonna go ahead and spring for the G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB DDR3-2400 kit EasyLover linked

Glad, you made a wise choice by selecting this kit. T is right, you'll definitely love them. :)
