CPU running insanely hot!

I have an FX-6100 (3.3GHz) and when idle it get's up from 50°c to 90°c and when it's under load it gets between 85°c to 97°c. This is extremely hot and anytime I try to run a video game (GTA V recently) it will shut it self down from overheating after about 5 to 10 minutes of play. I've go into the bios and have set the CPU fan to run a max at all times but it seems to still struggle and not run at it's max (I've seen it go into the 4200s rpm). The fan I have is an old stock fan and it began to make a buzzing noise and when I looked in through the side panel I saw that it was slowing down quite a bit (into the 400 rpm range). I assume it's both the fan just dying out and i'll probably have to re-apply some thermal paste. Would anyone on here say that i'm correct in think so or could it be something else? Any and all help is welcome :)

Yeah most programs have trouble reading the real CPU temps of the FX cpu's mine included. That 65 is probably more like 50 and as it begins to heat up reaching that 65 it shutdown. I'm not sure if it's the sensors but something is definitely wrong. If you plan on buying the 212 EVO, thermal paste will be included from Cooler Master themselves. A good way to get an idea of how hot your CPU really is running is to restart your PC (not shutdown) while it shows 65 C in Aida and quickly boot into BIOS.

Sorry for my ignorance. I'm just going off of what the program i'm using says. I'll post a pick of it here.

I was told Aida64 was a good program for seeing this info. Again, sorry for my ignorance, i'm not sure if i'm reading this correctly or not.

That's actually the Cooler I was looking at buying. I was also going to buy some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste along with it.

Dont waste your money on Arctic Silver 5, the paste included with the 212 Evo is totally fine.

AS5 is outdated and not even that good by modern standards.

Thanks for the info. Now, i'm sort of a noob, but when reading this or any other program is the temperature i'm looking for the cores? Or just the CPU one? Also, thanks on the heads up with the thermal paste :)
