there will be folks more computer literate than i am popping up to answer

i can only share that irst basically involves RAID - and i didn't even realize that until i noticed that when i activated it in BIOS, sata mode in PCH Storage would change from AHCI to RAID

and it was causing some strange occurences - my OS drive, the "C" or boot partition, the "free GB" value would actually increase daily, from original of 43.2 GB free of 122 GB to 75 GB free - thought i was loosing data somewhere but couldn't find anything missing. And it was only that OS drive, not the data drives (two 2 TB WD HDD drives i use for video storage) that were affected.

And for some strange reason, my USB ports would drop out, nothing i'd plug in would show up...

And for some strange reason, my USB ports would drop out, nothing i'd plug in would show up and i couldn't acess anything on external drives etc. I dis-abled or turned off IRST and USB ports came back on the next reboot and the constantly varying "free GB" count stopped varying - but it's now at the 75 GB level.

I'm not saying that will happen to you, just thought i'd mention in case you saw it occurring, you'd know what to look at.

and fyi, i was using the latest intel F6 driver

the Rapid mode selection in samsung's Magician utility is supposed to work in enhancing their SSDs performance - you might give it a try
