Solution
NO, you HAVE TO BE ONLINE becuase you HAVE to log into the Rockstar CLUB to run the game.
It is 2015 and all games are expecting / based around being online. Get a better Internet connection.

Easy there fella. There are countless people on this planet that live in areas without high speed internet access. In the US alone, there are so many rural areas that don't receive anything beyond a crappy satellite connection.

I know I used to be on a 1MB shared connection for where I was living at. I know how painful this can be.
Basically it is CHEAPER for the makers to push the updates (GTA V has a update BTW you all didn't hear) and support the systems via ONLINE
then it is with IN PERSON or OVER THE PHONE. So in this modern age YES the only way you will be able to play these MODERN games is
being online. I had to manage MY GAMING by everytime I went to bed, setting the game to 'load' while I slept so it would download patches and so on
(for example all my Steam games). Many times it be DAYS of doing that before I could play my games.

Sorry the ONLY answer is GET better Internet. There are Microwave shots, there is Satellite, CableTV, Cell Phone, etc. available to reach every spot even the remotest spots, but it depends on how you manage it and how much your willing to invest. I seen the Satellite now is comparable to CableTV cost, and is very viable except in deep low Valley (high mountains) blocking the Satellite in the southern sky.

No you don't. I just unplugged my network cable and launched the game and it has an offline mode. Great news actually, but you will need it to install the game and get running.

And for the new patches being distributed, which another forum post already mentioned there was one released, but again it is GB rage of data, and well, sorry unless you call Rockstar and PAY for a DVD version with patches to be sent to you, you will have to get better Internet or be very very very patient from when you buy a game to when you can acutally play them (I remember once I had to wait a full week before I could play due to downloading limitations).

I've never had the need to leave a comment on this site, but your asinine, self-centered, obtuse and arrogant comment compelled me. You don't live in reality.

I definitely agree with you 100%. This guy is really arrogant to believe that the modern age is completely centered around being online. DUMBEST THING IVE EVER HEARD!

As per my knowing you have to download a patch for 5-6 GB for the first time you activate the game before playing it offline. It seems very annoying a patch is for just playing the game online.

Why don't YOU come here to BUSH ALASKA and LAY SOME FIBER down OVER THE TUNDRA to get that better internet connection? Also, while you're doing that, I need you to CALL the SATELLITE INTERNET PROVIDERS and ARGUE with them to provide ME a BETTER INTERNET CONNECTION, because they tell me I'M TOO FAR NORTH. My current connection is a string of MICROWAVE towers and that's CRAZY EXPENSIVE and sometimes down.

Also, while you're at it, I'm going to need you to CONTRIBUTE to my INTERNET BILL every month, since it's $15 per GB in overage fees (with a 40GB per month cap). If I let every single game I played on PC connect to the internet all the time, I'd have pay out the nose in overage fees just to reply to this absurdity. This is especially true since GTA5 seems to want loads of updates (or at least it seems so).

so does that mean that gta5 is an online game? . like coc?

GTA V has modes involving achievements, multiplayer mode, and so on. In addition, as all games for the past 10 years, the only 'patching' is done via having a online connection. So if you want a 'fix' to the game you need to connect, register, then allow it to download and patch the game.

I have basically the worst Internet here in Germany, I don't even get into the MB speeds at any time, luckily germany claims to have fiber glass everywhere in 2018...

I also just bought the game for pc. Hooked it up at my parents to complete activation. Now if I go home without Internet can I play the offline mode? And if not, which crack do I need so that I don't deal with this problem?

Tom's Hardware does not support any form of software piracy. None. Period.

First instead of posting to the thread, you should READ IT.

That said, it has been stated you can play offline BUT, you will NOT get any new free maps / other content offered (DLC), you will not get any FIXES (patches) to the game, you will not be able to do ACHIEVEMENTS or have them recorded to Rockstar (which is where they maintain such things), also in many cases attaining certain achievements or levels UNLOCKS other things like missions, guns, vehicles etc, but again that needs a ONLINE connection. Further you can't do the BIGGEST feature of the game, MULTIPLAYER unless you have a Internet connection.

Honestly this sort of discussion (being offline to playgames) is something people stopped focusing on back in 2005, games have been (Halo etc being the most famous) all about BEING ONLINE, and now are centered on it to work.
