FX simulation/Rendering render farm

Hello all, First of all sorry about my English.

I am working at the VFX industry as a FX artist for 2 years. Creating, simulation like, effects, fire,cloud,water, splashes, destruction etc.

I would like to buy render farm, pre build for home, because i am no near qualified to build one. Or if there a step a step guild how to build, connect, install, etc please let me know.

Need high end render farm, and budget is not a problem ( i am not rich) just i have 2 good paying jobs.

Forgot to mention i am using, Houdini and Maya

The hosts often considered for a "farm" are rack mount servers which are usually very noisy. Is that acceptable? Do you have a separate room you will be putting this "farm" into?

I don't know enough about 3d rendering but it really isn't hard to build a PC.

What do you think about to build couple 2-3-4 Pc's and merge them into one? Is tat possible?

Check E-Bay for used HP ML350G6 or Dell T7500 servers. They are tower workstations that have dual socket motherboards, dual power supplies, Xeon CPUs and PCI express slots for GPUs. They are servers in a larger (and quieter) form factor. You would need a gigabit network switch to connect them all together and some network storage that they could all get to.

I was told that xeon is bad for simulation no matter how many are they. For better simulation, everyone is using i7.

I have trouble believing that. Intel sell WAY too many Xeons. Is the cost of an i7 lower yes. But if the software can take advantage of the extra hardware, two Xeons beats an i7 almost every time.
