My budget is under $220 max. I am currently running an AMD FX-6300, but I would be willing to switch to Intel if needed. I am going to be doing an equal mix of gaming, video editing, and programming. It will also be paired with an R9 280X if that helps.

He would also need a new motherboard to do that, and those two i5's you suggested are already above his $220 budget... Your best option is to just get the FX-8320 and a cpu cooler and overclock it.

I'd suggest just getting the CPU cooler first and overclocking your current CPU and see how that works for you before getting the CPU.

Best CPU for editing is core i7, period. But it's expensive. Wait! What if you could get a core i7 without the IGP? Enter the Xeon E3-1231 V3. 4 fast cores with hyperthreading just like the i7, but no IGP we don't need anyways and priced like an i5.

Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor

How is it useless when I run largely CPU-dependent programs for video rendering, programming and game recording?
