I have a new HDD that I used an .iso to get Windows 7 onto it.

What I had was the incorrect .iso;but that's not the problem,or My question. I have a Presario CQ56 lap top, running Windows 7 Home Premium with SP1 now. As well as all updates for now.:D
I need some advice on how to get the recovery partition from the old HDD to a new one(this one).I have USB cloning cables as well as some which connect directly to the motherboard. I was told by MS and some reps from clonezilla,I may be able to do so but not necessarily be able to get it to function. So what's the deal?Would cloning a bad HDDs' Recovery Section be a bad idea or could I just try to get to the recovery manger and copy those files instead? I need my DVD player for new program installs,as well as My web cam back as I need Skype as a Game tester! Most of the other crap ware can stay off this new HDD as far as I'm concerned! ;)
If I can just get the Recovery Manager program;that may work as well, all I really need are those two items and they are within the program itself!
Could I use that to (re)install them onto the new HDD instead of the other route of cloning the whole HDD or its recovery partition!
The old HDD was failing so I had a tier 2 tech working on it and She decided to format the C drive(my OS) and it finally failed or refused to boot. I can hook it to the USB cloning cables and see what's on it.It appears to be okay,I may be able to use it's Recovery Manager if I could get it to boot. I was able to get the .iso from the old HDD so other programs I may be able too as well,as they were in my downloads!BUT,what I really need is the Recovery Manager to install the DVD player and the Web Cam programs onto the new HDD. I'll give it a try and report back if it worked or not. Thanks!!!
I was able to extract my web cam and DVD player however only the web cam works! The DVD player is not recognising any disk nor is it in explorer like it was on my other HDD.It does show on my computer and driver manager,it just refuses to acknowledge any disk is inserted,it spins but never opens what the disk is!
SO now I only need to know how to get the DVD into explorer!!!I have tried all of the tricks I've read so far and nothing works. :(

HP/Compaq requires a DMI utility be run on any hard drive swap so that the system recovery functions properly without complaining about it not being compatible, so I don't think cloning that partition even matters.

Thanks tman1
I had heard that as well, however HP is a joke as far as getting any more help from them,I'd have to pay!!! Last I read it was still almost $250 for the DMI utility. That's only a little less than I paid for this lap top brand new!
No way I'm paying for anything from HP ever again.I'd buy another PC from a better Company before I'd pay;much less recommend an HP to anyone, ever. :fou: Sad thing is HP used to be a good Company!
They always hung up on Me even when I had this under warranty! I bought this PC back in Febuarary of 2011 and most of the errors were from 2008-2010 when they were installing programs to it! I showed them all the errors that came "shipped" on this and when it was only 3 months old is when it started to have problems.Rather than offering ANY help the Technician took a peek then cut off the remote connection and hung up the phone, after I said I want a new PC because you fools sold me a LEMON!!!
As stated,I was able to get the Web cam to function after using the USB cloning cables to open and used the set up application for it.Still no DVD player. :( lmao HP wants to charge me for a driver for that now too!

I can get you the DMI files if you really want them, but if you're fine with NOT having the system recovery partition, then you don't need them.

I'm reading through the DMI crap right now and honestly you're better off not using the system recovery partition.

Here is the readme file from the DMIFIT utility that includes your model:

*************************************************************
**** How to use the tool of NBDMIFIT Version 2.06 ****
**** ****
**** This tool works for the platforms from 2007 to 2015 ****
*************************************************************

Note:
1. The user should change BIOS boot mode to legacy or UEFI Hybrid to boot to DOS USB key
and run nbdmifit.bat to correct the date and find out what tools to run next.
If Nbdmifit.bat fails to run, go to the end of this file to find the efi tool to run.
2. When running wndmifit.exe, the user should select bottom left button "Commit only",
then run Brand13/Brand14, before go back to windows to lock MPM.

Preparations:
-------------

1. Write down the CT number on the label below memory sticks

2. Make an MS DOS bootable FAT32 USB hard disk.

3. Unzip the zipped tool file and copy all onto the root directory of USB hard disk.

*** Brand11, Brand12, Brand13, and Brand14 folders are copied under the root directory.***

4. Remove Power-on password if there is any.

5. Suggest change the system boot-order to "USB Hard Disk FIRST" from F10 setup.

6. To commit/brand any 2011 and newer platforms, the EFI Boot needs to be enabled from F10 BIOS Setup.

Boot to F10 BIOS Setup > System Configuration > Boot Options > select "UEFI Boot Mode" >
Save > Yes > Exit.

*Note: When this committing process is finished, please disable the EFI Boot:

F10 Setup > System Configuration > Boot Options > uncheck the box of "UEFI Boot Mode" >
Save > Yes > Exit.

7. To program any 2012 and newer platforms, boot to windows and run wndmifit.exe.

8. If the MPM mode is locked on 2012 and newer platforms, escalate to 2LS to get SMC blob to unlock MPM

Operation Steps (5 and 6 for bNB) :
----------------
1. Make sure power is off.

2. Attach the USB hard disk to the system.

3. Boot system to USB hard disk MS DOS.

4. Run NBDMIFIT.BAT.

5. Follow the display menu to configure system (Part Number, Serial Number, UUID, etc.)

Program ConfigID for bNB 2011 platforms, (get PCID from PCID label for 2012 and 2013 platforms):
Change only bit 3 of byte 2 after default value is displayed as below:
A0001C02: TPM on
A0001402: TPM off

*** System date/time has to be valid to generate UUID.***

6. The tool will try to commit/brand the blank board, to enable or disable AMT/vPro.

1). For the platforms from 2007 to 2010:

The program will prompt with a menu to choose.
The system will reboot a few times, and display the config state at final.

2). For 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 products:

Need to boot to USB drive EFI mode (refer to item 5 in Preparations section, for how to enable EFI boot)

Boot the system > F9 > “Boot From EFI File” > "NBDMIFIT, .../Usb(2,0)/..." > "Brand11"/"Brand12"/"Brand13"/"Brand14"> "Bootx64.efi" >
(Don't press ESC to skip startup.nsh) ME config menu screen (for Full ME) >
follow on-screen instruction, choose 1/2 to enable vPro/AMT or 3/4 to diable vPro/AMT >
key 9 and Enter, to reboot > After reboot, press F9 > boot back to efi to check status

*Note: When this committing process is finished, please disable the EFI Boot:

F10 Setup > System Configuration > Boot Options > uncheck the box of "UEFI Boot Mode" > Save > Yes > Exit.

wow that's a lot of reading man! I got about half way through when I realized I had already read this. :p lol Thanks again!!! I may just wait, remove my new HDD.Save this baby for a museum, some hammer time and a recycle center and buy a new lap top soon. Ha! gotta laugh or I'd be crying by now! ;)
I don't really need the recovery now.Just the dern DVD player to work, but I may just wait until I can download one from an online seller! I have a buddy who may have what I need already but I'll archive your reply as a refence, just in case ;) I'm wasn't all that Computer savvy but I'm learning from all the B.S. I had to do to this lap top over the past 4 years!!!;) I'll figure it out no matter what,I've been able to bring this sucker back to life when I thought it was totally dead and no hope!!!It took Me about 3 days to figure out what to do and it worked like a charm. A little research at the Public libraries' PC helped too but only gave me clues as to what I had to do! No actual right out fix,I had to figure that out myself. ;)

Click Start

In the search box type regedit and click OK or press the ENTER key.

This will open the Registry Editor program.

Continue to expand folders until you reach the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class registry key.

Click on (+) icon next to the Class key to expand it. You should see a long list of subkeys open up under Class that look something like this:
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

Click on 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318.

In the results that appear on the window on the right, locate the UpperFilters and LowerFilters values.

Right-click on UpperFilters and choose Delete.

Choose Yes to the "Deleting certain registry values could cause system instability. Are you sure you want to permanently delete this value?" question.

Right-click on LowerFilters and choose Delete.

Choose Yes to the "Deleting certain registry values could cause system instability. Are you sure you want to permanently delete this value?" question.

Close Registry Editor.

Restart your computer.

I did this one as well, yet it did not have any lower filters at the time and now there are neither upper or lower filters after I deleted the upper one then restarted.
Nothing made a difference when I installed the powerdvd player! Still no upper or lower filters!
