What I had was the incorrect .iso;but that's not the problem,or My question. I have a Presario CQ56 lap top, running Windows 7 Home Premium with SP1 now. As well as all updates for now.
I need some advice on how to get the recovery partition from the old HDD to a new one(this one).I have USB cloning cables as well as some which connect directly to the motherboard. I was told by MS and some reps from clonezilla,I may be able to do so but not necessarily be able to get it to function. So what's the deal?Would cloning a bad HDDs' Recovery Section be a bad idea or could I just try to get to the recovery manger and copy those files instead? I need my DVD player for new program installs,as well as My web cam back as I need Skype as a Game tester! Most of the other crap ware can stay off this new HDD as far as I'm concerned!
If I can just get the Recovery Manager program;that may work as well, all I really need are those two items and they are within the program itself!
Could I use that to (re)install them onto the new HDD instead of the other route of cloning the whole HDD or its recovery partition!
The old HDD was failing so I had a tier 2 tech working on it and She decided to format the C drive(my OS) and it finally failed or refused to boot. I can hook it to the USB cloning cables and see what's on it.It appears to be okay,I may be able to use it's Recovery Manager if I could get it to boot. I was able to get the .iso from the old HDD so other programs I may be able too as well,as they were in my downloads!BUT,what I really need is the Recovery Manager to install the DVD player and the Web Cam programs onto the new HDD. I'll give it a try and report back if it worked or not. Thanks!!!
I was able to extract my web cam and DVD player however only the web cam works! The DVD player is not recognising any disk nor is it in explorer like it was on my other HDD.It does show on my computer and driver manager,it just refuses to acknowledge any disk is inserted,it spins but never opens what the disk is!
SO now I only need to know how to get the DVD into explorer!!!I have tried all of the tricks I've read so far and nothing works.
