Before I changed my thermal paste on my r9 280x toxic by sapphire I got 72c max on msi kombustor ,I changed 2 times the thermal paste with mx4 the first time a little line and the second time a little dot in the middle and both times my temps increased to 74-75.The tests done yesterday with the same room temperature. What I am doing wrong?

You probably didn't put enough paste on it. GPU chips have no heatspreader like CPU. Make sure your paste is non-conductive then put plenty on making sure it's fully covered.

make sure the drivers are using a good fan profile. if the fan control drivers are damaged the gpu may not be spinning the fans up faster when the gpu is under load. try setting the fans to max speed see if you hear them spin up. the nsee in the same game if the card is cooler.

Well, when i change paste, i make a narrow line up the center of the chip, then i use an old credit card to spread the thermal paste as thinly as possible to cover the entire surface. Then make sure to attach the heat sink nice n tight :)

Also, when you remove the gpu cooler to replace the paste. Did the VRM's have thermal pads on them? Did you replace these?

You are worried about a difference in 2-3 degrees, which isn't too much. Also all those temps are well below the thermal limit for that card.

Is the cooler tight enough? Not over tight, but that could affect temps too.

I put the 4 back screws first and in x pattern 2 turns every each,i tight them just a little bit more than loose.I didnt change the thermal pads since they were in great condition(and I dont have available right now).

I always put the screws these way before, today i tried the spread method again with mx4 and i got 71c max with 59% fan speed ,i got a degree down and 1% less fan speed, i notice also that the temps increase more slowly and when i close my the msi kombustor the heat dissipate really quick.I am pretty dissapointed because i was waiting atleast 3c down at full load but it looks that i am doing something wrong, i will keep the card this way until i see the temps go higher.Because i search on internet and i noticed that all other guys get 75c max so i think that my 71c is good for a 25c room.
