Windows 8.1 x64bit only 3.95GB of ram usable out of 8GB?

Hi,

My specs are listed below

Windows 8 x64bit
Motherboard: MSI 970A-G46
CPU: AMD FX-6300
RAM: Kingston Technology HyperX 8 GB 1600MHz DDR3
GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 270 2GB GDDR5

I'm pretty sure my BIOS is update to date with the latest version. so I really don't know whats the cause of this, any help?

does it show 8 gb in BIOS,

is it a single stick or two , if it is two check for the problematic RAM

go to MSCONFIG, go to BOOT, click on ADVANCED OPTIONS, check whether the maximum memory is check marked

Make sure memory is seated properly.

Try different slots.

Remove CPU and check CPU and its socket for missing and damaged pins/pads. Reinstall carefully and evenly. Make sure CPU cooler screws are not over tightened.

had same issue (3.99 usable out of 8)

Removed my CPU and re-installed it...it worked.

Remove one of the sticks. reboot into windows. shut down. re-insert the removed stick. start up. windows should now report 8gb.
