I want to upgrade my windows 8 (64 bit)to windows 8.1(64 bit) in my newely assembled pc. I try several times by formating usb flash drive with NTFS format in windows 8 then extract windows 8.1 image into it, but all in vain. In order make a fresh install of windows, every time i restrat my pc and go to boot options i see UEFI Usb flash Drive(any). When I select it to install windows i found error during drive selection. "Your hard drive partion style is of mbr format. Windows can't convert to gpt format". After making several attempts I reach to below conclusion.

SOLUTION:
To upgrade from windows 8 to 8.1 use DVD instead of usb pendrive. If you want to make USB flash drive bootable , then format it in windows 7 or use any specific software. It will create a mbr partion style bootable usb. Then extract or copy windows files into it.
It works for my PC and Laptop.I Hope works for all.
Enjoy...

NOTE: No matter which Pc Or Laptop you are using Old or New, there is no need to convert Mbr to Gpt. Because there is no specific advantage other than you have Hard disk of more than 2 TB.
Mbr works best in Pc.
